Somehow the acoustic instruments made me think of them as even grungier, I guess they somehow sound dirtier and more real and raw.

I agree, Im of the opinion that acoustic guitars (tuned down) are a cornerstone of grunge.

I guess you could mistake Travis's music for grunge, when he wrote and played songs when he was 15-16 (like what you have posted) and was in the midst of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, STP, etc popularity(and many people compared his voice to Veddar) and was heavily influenced by dark tones and metal music, like Pantera and Metallica. But it would be the celtic, instrumental music that he longed to write and perform (dead can dance, and soundtrack instrumental music). raw lyrics with multi instrumental layers. That's the music I know and love, and it is NOTHING like grunge. Can't wait for everyone to hear Purple.
